AI Sapiens K0 is the first humanoid platform in ROBOTIS' "AI Sapiens" series, unveiled on 20 April 2026. It stands 1.3 metres tall and weighs 34 kilograms, with 23 active degrees of freedom — six in each leg, five in each arm, and a single waist axis. The whole platform is built around 23 of ROBOTIS' new Dynamixel-Q quasi-direct-drive (QDD) actuators, split into 14 of the smaller QM-060 units and nine of the larger QM-080 units. Onboard compute is a 6 TOPS NPU, and the robot runs on a 46.8 V / 9000 mAh battery.
What sets the K0 apart from the wider 2026 humanoid field is the open-source release. ROBOTIS publishes the full hardware bill of materials, CAD files, source code and simulation assets for the platform — an explicit attempt to lower the rebuild friction that has historically limited academic and small-team work in humanoid robotics. The platform supports reinforcement learning training in NVIDIA Isaac Sim and imitation learning via leader-follower teleoperation rigs, positioning it as a research baseline for Physical AI rather than a commercial-deployment product.
The Dynamixel-Q actuator line is scheduled for broader commercial release in the second half of 2026. Until then, the K0 effectively serves a dual purpose: it is the reference platform that demonstrates what the new actuator class can do, and it is an open hardware design that other labs and companies can fork. ROBOTIS has been here before — the 2009 DARwIn-OP, also developed as an open platform, became the dominant base for the RoboCup soccer league and shaped a generation of academic humanoid research.
